Common Questions
The city offers free wood mulch at the Upper Ottawa location from 7:30am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday. Most people work during these hours. If the Municipal Service Centres are open until 4:30pm, why can’t the Upper Ottawa Street location stay open late one or two days or at least one day on the weekend so everybody can use this service?
The wood chips (mulch) generated by our Forestry operations are primarily used for City programs in Horticulture, Parks Maintenance and local Neighbourhood Volunteer Park improvement programs. If there are surplus wood chips, Forestry Operations will make them available at the Upper Ottawa yard on a first come first serve basis. This is not a service the city is committed to providing but is available to the public when supplies are available. Doing this does not cost the City money – in fact it saves the City the cost of disposal. Wood chips are only available during regular yard hours of 7:30 to 3:00 Monday to Friday. The City’s Forestry Operations division does not have the staff or budget to have staff available beyond regular hours.

What is being built on the south-west corner of Binbrook Road and Highway 56 in the Village of Binbrook?
Three commercial buildings are proposed at the corner being a bank; large scale pharmacy and restaurant. The entire boundary (except for the street line) of the commercial property will be fenced with a 6′ privacy fence. Additionally, there will be a 4.5 metre (14.7′) landscape area between the commercial development and residential uses to the rear. Finally, all loading and garbage areas will be screened and fenced off, in accordance with the provisions of the required noise study.
Why does the traffic light at Highway 8 and McNeilly Road in Winona stay red for 5 minutes or more at times? Could the light change quicker for traffic on McNeilly?
The City’s Traffic Deptartment advises that this signal is traffic responsive, there is no set time on when the lights will change. If there is no traffic (vehicles or pedestrians) on McNeilly the signal will stay green for Highway 8. When vehicles or pedestrians on McNeilly arrive at the intersection, they may have to wait up to a minute for the traffic signal to change depending on the traffic on Highway 8.
How many acres is required for the proposed Pan Am Stadium? Will the City purchase the property? Who would the property and stadium belong to?
The minimum acreage required for the Pan Am Games stadium is 30 acres. This land would house the stadium, an adjacent warm-up track and Games staging areas (for media and athlete amenities). Some of this land could be “re-purposed” after the Pan Am Games for other uses. The City would own the land and stadium. The City is working on a financing plan that would entail government and private sector contributions, including a potential funding contribution from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
I know that I can pay parking tickets at the Municipal Service Centres, but is it true we can now pay speeding tickets there as well?

I have a couple old paint cans I need to get rid of. Does the trailer still go around to the community centres so that we can take are Hazardous Waste to them for free?
The City’s Community Recycling Centers are now open 6 days a week, so these Environmental Days will no longer be offered. The two Community Recycling Centres that serve Ward 11 are: 460 Kenora Ave (north of Barton & west of Centennial) and 37 Killbride Rd (south of Rymal and west of Nebo Rd’s).
