What’s New in Ward 11

This article also appeared in the Stoney Creek News.

Our next Ward 11 Community Meeting is set for Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 at 7pm at the Stoney Creek Municipal Office, 777 Hwy #8, corner of Jones Rd and Hwy #8. We are just in the process of setting the agenda, so if there is something that you are interested in, please let us know. Further updates on this meeting will be in my article in the February 18th edition of the Stoney Creek News. At this point in time, we are looking at having an overview of the 2010 budget on the agenda and how the changes will affect our community.

The intersection of Fifty Road and the South Service Road has been approved for an all-way stop. It’s long overdue and greatly needed.

Please remember that sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours of a snowfall. This is a by-law; but most importantly it is for the safety of walkers in the area.

If you haven’t been to the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre lately, you might not be aware that you can now pay with Visa or MasterCard. You have been able to pay parking tickets for quite some time, but now you can pay speeding tickets there as well. Yes, you can pay Provincial Offense, POA tickets provided it is within the payment due dates (15 days). Another great service at this location is our Public Library, drop by there and check it out as well.

The Provincial Government has chosen Glanbrook Municipal Service Centre as a location for renewing or replacing your Health Cards. Keep in mind, Glanbrook is part of Ward 11 and it is much closer than going downtown to King & James St’s. The service is not provided daily, so you need to call 1-888-376-5197 and make an appointment. Remember to ask for the Glanbrook location. Keep in mind that I understand that the service is also provided in the Grimsby area, so you can choose the day/location that is more convenient for you. There is plenty of parking and the facility is located at 4280 Binbrook Road. This service was offered one day a month in 2009 and it was a huge success so they have added a lot more days this year. I’m hoping that we will be able to convince the Ministry of Health to add this service to the Stoney Creek Office, but nothing confirmed as of yet.

The Ward 11 website is in the final stages of completion and I must say, it is looking really great and is loaded with information for residents of our communities. If you would like to be added to the email list to be notified when it’s launched and also be notified of community meetings, please email Kathy Dinney or Councillor Mitchell.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at 905-546-4513 or at the email address above.
